Studies

What can I say about my studies?

I never really liked studying in a class, listening to teachers and not doing anything else...

I first obtained an electronician diploma, before doing the school of engineer in IT. But, as I wrote, I didn't really like studying and spending my time in class. The time was really long and I often found others occupations during the class... This is why I left the engineering school, to start working.

Many people told me that I would not be able to do anything in my life, because I didn't study too much... but I discovered a newer way of learning and improving my knowledge, without learning in a class in a standard way.

When I started working in IT, I tried to evolve as fast as possible, doing different type of tasks at different levels. I started to read a lot of books during my personal time, shared my knowledge with my colleagues and actively participated on different forums, like Microsoft forums.

To learn a little bit more and become more qualified in IT, I continued reading books and started to pass some certifications. I started with one MCP, then continued until obtaining my first MCSE.

Learning in the books and sharing my knowledge with other people was really good and I enjoyed learning this way. By reading books, you can learn at your own speed, yo do not need to wait for the class to read the next chapter and you can keep busy.

At this step, I didn't have any high education diploma... the most important certificates I had were IT certifications. This is where I started looking at all learning possibilities, to increase my knowledge, again. I found the online training with the University of Liverpool very attractive: this gives the possibility to start higher studies, manage the time how we want and work on the program at our own speed.

Studying online with the University of Liverpool was a really great experience. This is a flexible way of learning, giving the opportunity to manage the time as we want. But the most interesting part is that we are sharing our knowledge, experience and way of thinking with teachers and students from everywhere around the world. This is a good way to have an overview about the different meanings and issues we could encounter in others locations.

I am now graduated from the University of Liverpool in MSc in ISM (Master of Sciences in Information Systems Management). This was really good, helped me to open my mind a little bit larger and progress in my job.

If you are interested, there is an online video of the Graduation Ceremony at the University of Liverpool (38:50).

What's next?

I was thinking to continue learning, continue improving my knowledge and sharing my experience.

One possibility could have been the MBA (Master of Business Administration), but I already did a big part of the program during the MSc in ISM and a lot of people are obtaining the MBA every year.

For this reason, I have investigated the possibility to complete a DBA (Doctorate of Business Administration), specialized in ISM (Information Systems Management). This will be a good way to continue improving my knowledge, sharing my experience and maybe... become a teacher one day. I found a program that was matching my requirements and started it, but after one month I decided to leave it. I didn't get a lot of support from this University, I didn't get real answers to my questions and I was graded more on the punctuation on my documents than its content. I really liked studying at Liverpool, but not at this second University.

Let see how will be the future, but in any case I will continue increasing my knowledge and develop my business experience.

I know that not everybody is able to study by himself and follow online class, but this is giving so much and provide so much flexibility, I can only recommend it!

And do not forget: it is never too late to study!

Good luck if you are planning studying online.
