What to say about sport?

When I was younger, I did a lot of different sports like: cycling, swimming, ski, basketball, ping pong, baseball, aikido, roller-blade, uni-hockey, tennis, badminton, squash...

When I started working, I didn't take time to continue doing some sport and started to increase my weight, until being 120kg. This was a lot and I did not feel really good.

One day, my life started to change: a colleague was going to the gym every day and told me to try it. The fitness was located only 7-8 walking minutes from the office and people were friendly. I started with a coach, teaching me how to use every engine and making a training plan for me. This was really needed as I didn't do any sport during the last... 10 years!

My colleague is doing triathlon too and I went to support him when he did a race in my city. I organized a surprise, asking others colleagues to come and support him. He did a good race and we shared a very good time. At the end of his race, I told him this sport looks really good and I would probably enjoy doing it. At this date, I was 115kg, but he got me: My new challenge was to do a triathlon 1 year later, at the same race.

Everybody was telling me I was crazy: Planning a triathlon when you are 115kg, are you sure everything is going well in your head?

In one year, I had to start cycling again, learn swimming and start running (something I don't really like). This was a good challenge, but I lost about 25kg in one year and completed my first triathlon one year later!

Since then, I continue training but didn't do a lot of races every year as sometimes the time is missing or I got some injuries... I also started again to practice others sports, like ski or squash.

 

What to remember?

I discovered that doing some sport is essential: I am now feeling better and it also increased my days as I sleep less than before (people are telling this is because I can now recover faster).

Triathlon is a really good sport as you train different parts of your body. But you need to be careful and learn how to listen your body to not get injured.

If you want to improve your performances, this is good to do the same discipline 2-3 times a week. But this is not an obligation, as you first need to train for yourself and enjoy it!

For me, the goal of doing a race is to complete it, enjoy it, be satisfied about myself and keep smiling! Arriving in the firsts positions is really not my goal, I only want to enjoy it and share some time with my friends.
